Nostalgia Files βͺ

In this series, we will look back at some memorable moments in sporting history!

Tiger Woods and the 2019 Masters

In 2019, Tiger Woods made an incredible comeback by winning his 15th major at the Masters, overcoming personal setbacks and back surgeries. At 43, he rallied from behind, starting the final day two strokes down, to clinch his fifth green jacket in a stunning display of skill and resilience.

Woods shot a 2-under-par 70 on the final Sunday, winning at 13-under (275), his first major victory since 2008. This triumph, just one shy of Jack Nicklaus' record, was remarkable considering Woods' journey through four back surgeries and career uncertainties.

On the final round, under threat of bad weather, Woods' precision saw him hit 58 out of 72 greens and make 22 birdies. This victory, more than just a win, marked one of the greatest comebacks in sports, showcasing Woods' ability to overcome adversity and triumph against the odds.

Stadium Spotlight πŸ”¦

A new series, where we look at some of the coolest and best stadiums around the world!

Hard Rock Stadium, Miami

Originally opened in 1987 as the Joe Robbie Stadium, the Hard Rock Stadium has served as the home stadium for the Miami Dolphins and the Miami Hurricanes football teams since the 80s.

Over the years, the stadium underwent significant renovations and ownership changes, eventually adopting the name Hard Rock Stadium in 2016 following a naming rights deal with the Hard Rock Cafe franchise.

The stadium has been a versatile host, showcasing events including five Super Bowls and numerous college football championships.

The Miami Dolphins have ingeniously turned the heat, quite literally, in their favour at the Hard Rock Stadium.

The stadium's strategic design, revamped between 2015 and 2016, ensures that the sun beats relentlessly on the opponent's sideline, subjecting them to temperatures notably higher than those on the Dolphins' shaded side.

This architectural advantage has become a noteworthy factor in some of the Dolphins' home victories, with temperature differences during games sometimes reaching 30 degrees or more.

The design, coupled with the Dolphins' choice of wearing white uniforms that reflect sunlight, puts the opposing teams at a further disadvantage as their darker team colours absorb solar energy, intensifying the already scorching conditions.

Throughout the season, television commentators have highlighted this clever design, and while the Vikings managed to overcome the temperature challenge and hand the Dolphins their only home loss of the season last year, the weather advantage has been a significant talking point.

Some opposing fans may express discontent on social media, deeming the strategy as "illegal," but the truth is that utilizing weather and stadium designs to gain a competitive edge is well within the rules of the game.

The Dolphins' innovative approach adds a unique twist to home-field advantage, making Hard Rock Stadium a challenging environment for visiting teams.
